Miami Tweeps Gather To Celebrate Social Media Day 2012

miami social media day

Nearly 600 social media enthusiasts gathered in Wynwood’s Zadok Gallery to celebrate a new global ritual: Social Media Day. According to the official website, Social Media Day is “a way to recognize the digital revolution happening right before our eyes.” Locally, the event was celebrated with a one-day conference and after-party organized by a group of Miami’s top Twitterati, including Alex de Carvalho, Janie Sederberg Coffey, Maria De Los Angeles, James Echols & Annette Peikert, and many more – the event proved once again that Miami’s social media community is not only strong and unified, but also ready to welcome new faces and continue to grow.

The conference kicked off at 2pm with speakers from all over Miami-Dade County presenting on a variety of topics, including the history of social media, the Miami blogosphere, the psychology of social media, and how to leverage social media in your business or non-profit. The impressive array of speakers included Michelle Villalobos, Lisa Sparks, and Frederic Montagnon.

But social media isn’t all work and guests were treated to Red Bull, Vita Coco, and a sweet 305 cafecito bar by JLPR. Other sponsors included Overblog, Car2Go, Constant Contact, The Miami Herald, Miami Parking Authority, The Knight Foundation, Philanthrofest, Compuquip, The Stage, Fried on Business, Miami Social Marketing, JLPR, El Dorado Rum, and of course, your friends at Preemo.

Check out some of the fantastic event photos on Facebook, and on James Echols’ blog, Soul of Miami.
